3 simple tips for losing weight starting today

There is a lot of information about weight loss in the world and many promise a magical solution. Besides eating right and daily exercise, there are a few essential tips that don’t focus on food or movement that can increase the chance of getting the results you desire. Here are three essential weight loss tips that are proven necessary for getting to and maintaining a healthy body weight.


  1. Make sure to get enough quality sleep    

Sleep affects our weight in a few different ways. When we are sleep deprived, we are more likely to choose high fat and high sugar foods to help us stay awake. This increased craving for unhealthy foods will often go away or will become more manageable once we begin getting consistent good sleep.

Another way that sleep helps us to achieve or maintain a healthy weight is by lowering our stress levels. Sleep deprivation causes cortisol levels to rise which make it harder for the body to lose weight, even with other changes.

For effective weight loss, sleep needs to be made a priority. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted quality sleep. To get the deepest sleep make sure the room is dark and cool, free of noise and that you are in bed by 10pm.


  1. Stay Hydrated    

    Dehydration makes it harder to lose extra pounds. Most people don't drink the recommended eight cups of water a day and it's hurting their weight loss efforts. Not only does the body need water to burn fat and remove waste but being hydrated is also essential for digestion and muscle function. Studies have also shown that drinking water at meals helps people consume fewer calories as it makes us feel full faster. Also, sometimes we confuse thirst for hunger so we are really craving water but mistakenly consume food.

    Aim for at least 64 oz of water per day and if you are working out consume another 24-48 oz to replenish what was lost. As our muscles are about 75% water, it’s crucial to rehydrate for optimal recovery.


    1. Embrace a Plant-based Diet

      Diet is 80% of the reason why our bodies transform in size whether it’s to get larger or smaller. When we embrace a plant-based diet we are consuming fiber-rich foods that make us feel full for longer while supplying the nutrients our bodies need to run optimally.

      Because fruits and vegetables are more perishable and because grains and legumes take time to prepare, a plant-based diet requires more time and energy compared to opening a pre-made, processed, preservative-laden meal.
