Here’s why eating vegan isn’t just good for you, it’s good for the environment

While many of us choose to eat plant-based for our own health reasons or personal beliefs, here’s just one more reason to keep eating plant-based. Researchers from the University of Oxford found that taking both meat and dairy out of our diet could cut back one person’s carbon footprint from food by a whopping 73%. That’s huge, and it gives us hope that there are some very realistic steps we can all take to take better care of our planet while also taking better care of our health.

What Else Can Eating Plant-Based Do For This Beautiful Planet of Ours?

If we all stopped eating meat and dairy, this same research study also noted that global farmland use could be cut down by 75% and that we would see a serious decline in greenhouse gas emissions.

Plus, think about the issue of air pollution for a minute — did you know that the air inside of livestock farms has been shown to contain very high levels of dist as well as gasses? Air pollution from livestock has also been linked to respiratory issues in those working in these settings as well as those residing in areas close to these livestock farms.

A great solution is to eat more plants! Not only do plants not give off these harmful gasses and excess pollution, but plants actually purify the air.

Healthy & Delicious Ways to Start Eating More Plants

Ready to make the switch to plant-based eating or at least start to eat more plants and less meat and dairy?

Here are some delicious tips to get you started.

  • Swap out dairy cheese for cashew-based cheese
  • Try nutritional yeast vs. parmesan cheese
  • Eat beans vs. beef
  • Use lentils in “meat” sauce vs. beef
  • Try oat milk in place of cows milk
  • Saute cubed tempeh or tofu in place of chicken

Here’s Just One More Push to Go Plant-based

Whether you’re already eating plant-based or are considering making the shift, there’s no better time than now. Not only does plant-based eating offer numerous health benefits, but new research is showing just how beneficial it may be for our environment.
