Happy July 4th (almost!)!! I love the 4th of July-filled with summertime fun in the sun, and a cookout with friends and family. Uh, oh! Cookout?! We can have a great cookout too! There is such beautiful food in season right now, and as I always say-I'm "in-season for a reason"!  Utilize those fresh berries, greens, and herbs to your benefit and create some gorgeous, healthy dishes to share with friends and family! Celebrate Strawberry Season

Strawberries are in season! Strawberries are the perfect food to add to your oatmeal in the morning, turn into a smoothie, a waffle topping, jam, or cobbler.  This week marked the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, and there's a full moon to boot!  The full moon of June is called the "strawberry moon".  The term "strawberry moon" was given by the Algonquin tribes because it occurs right at the height of the season when strawberries are harvested. Strawberries Are Jammin!

We pick it all. If we don't grown it, we're out there in the field somewhere. Of course-I grab my helpers. I hope in the future, they'll look back and remember each season, and what was special about it. Strawberries are the first of the summer berries to become ripe, and sadly, their season is fast leaving us. Just as quickly as they come, strawberries also loose their nutritional benefits. Strawberries, like all berries, are highly perishable.
