In honor of Earth Day, here's a quick post about an issue that matters to every inhabitant on Earth: the elimination of fossil fuels as our primary source of large-scale energy.
The clean energy revolution is just getting underway in earnest. 'Alternative' sources of energy such as wind, solar and geothermal are only now beginning to be studied and understood in the context of large-scale energy production. Now the drastic drop in the price of oil is likely to ease pressure on regulators to push for development of such alternative energy sources. We can't let that happen! We all need to keep pushing ahead. How?
Here's one organization worth learning about: Ocean Geothermal Energy Foundation (OGEF). OGEF's mission is to fund the R&D needed to tap into the earth's vast geothermal energy resources on the ocean floor. A worthy goal, to be sure, but one that is going to take significant resources and won't be accomplished without the support of many, many people, organizations and governments.
