the 4 best food documentaries you can watch on netflix tonight

After a long day of commuting, working, and running errands, it’s no surprise that most of us just want to crash on the couch and watch Netflix after work. And while binge watching your favorite comedy can provide a healthy amount of laughter, we all know it is not the most productive way to spend an evening. Fortunately, there are a handful of health and wellness documentaries that you can watch on Netflix tonight that will keep you as informed as they do entertained. Here are a few of our favorites that are available on Netflix right now: What The Health Let’s start with the one that fueled the most water cooler talk in recent months. What The Health took the world by storm in 2017, making a lot of people stop and think about not only what is in their food, but about how reliable the information fed to consumers by health organizations actually is. The documentary follows Kip Andersen as he attempts to contact representatives of various health organizations to uncover the truth about the resources they provide for consumers, and their alleged connections between the meat, dairy, and pharmaceutical industries. By the end of this film, you’ll find you have a lot of questions you still want answered by the health organizations our society trusts. Forks Over Knives Ask anyone who has adopted a plant-based diet why they did it and there’s a good chance Forks Over Knives is the reason. Through an examination of the careers of American physician Caldwell Esselstyn, and professor of nutritional biochemistry, T. Colin Campbell, this documentary argues that many diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer, can be prevented and treated by eating a whole food, plant-based diet. They illustrate the dangers of processed and animal-based food and provide helpful tips for adapting to a plant-based diet. Fed Up Parents will be especially interested in this documentary from Katie Couric. Fed Up dives deep into the hidden dangers of processed foods and shares why unhealthy foods are allowed in schools. This film looks at how the dietary guidelines issued by the U.S. government 30 years ago overlooked the role of dietary sugar in increasing risks of obesity, diabetes, and associated ill-health outcomes, particularly in children. The health effects of these guidelines are still felt today, rates of childhood obesity have skyrocketed, and so has the influences of the sugar industry in our government. Spoiler alert: At the end of the film, a list of 20 companies, industry groups and politicians who refused to speak to the filmmakers is provided. Believe us when we say, you’ll be fed up too! Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret If you enjoyed An Inconvenient Truth, then you’ll likely enjoy Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, which explores the impact of animal agriculture on the environment, and investigates the policies of environmental organizations on this issue. The film looks at various environmental concerns, including global warming, water use, deforestation, and ocean dead zones. What’s the cause of these environmental troubles you might ask? This documentary argues that animal agriculture is the primary source of environmental destruction; another excellent reason to adapt a plant-based diet! By the end of this binge, you’ll be ready to dive in to a plate of healthy, plant-based food. What the Health’s findings on chicken, and Cowspiracy’s data on water waste may have you second guessing your food choices, and will have you leaning towards our Country Fried Chick’n and Beluga Lentil Braise. Don't worry, we've got you covered!
