This Valentine’s Day Show How Much You Care

Posted by Nicki Cooper on

Show love this Valentine’s by nourishing the heart, body and soul with food and desserts that say you care.  Don’t give unwanted calories followed by days of intense workouts when there are so many treats that can bring joy today with no regrets tomorrow!  Besides isn’t it time to show off a little creativity and drop the cliché box of chocolates.

Start the day off with romance.  Pick flowers from your garden and set them next to freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice.  With a little precooked quinoa from the night before, you can easily whip up some healthy heart shaped pancakes.  If you make the batter dry, you can shape them by hand or if it is runny, put it in a zip lock and cut the corner to make a squeeze tube.  When cooked, top them with a medley of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.  Be sure to include the poem you wrote or the card you made.  Don’t worry a loving note picked up at your local convenience store can say all the right words too.

Attention is one of the most valuable gifts you can give someone you care about, so don’t waste your day.  Plan a hike through the snow, a walk down the beach, a stroll around town or stay in and cuddle.  Whatever your big plan is, try to focus on things that benefit you both.  You could always get endorphins flowing by exercising together. Or to be romantic and sweet, try creating together.  Have an assortment of dried and fresh fruits and dip them in dark chocolate.  You can each make a box of chocolates to show each other how much you care and have a little fun in the process.

When evening finally arrives, it’s time to set out the candles and open the wine, but do be kind and serve a glass of water first.  No matter the appetizer, salad or main course, there are innumerable health conscious meals to be made with millions of flavor combinations, just keep health in mind.  A layered veggie lasagna is easy to prep and throw in the oven!  If you are planning to go out, do a little homework and find your local restaurants that offer mindful eating options.

Finally there is something integral about Valentines and desserts. We learn as children to give candy to our friends and as teenagers to give chocolates to our sweethearts. As health aware adults, this does not have to change.  This Valentines sit down with an all-natural raspberry swirled cheesecake, or if fruit is not your style, try a chocolate covered cheesecake. Here are two desserts you will love without fussing over calories or ingredients.  The best part is you don’t even have to make this treat. Place your Valentine’s order with Veestro to have dessert ready and waiting.  Happy Valentines!
